Yoga 13 – Laptop or Tablet?

Ever since Microsoft came out with the touch-friendly Windows 8, manufacturers have been coming out with a slew of new devices to woo consumers.

It goes without saying that Windows 8 is best used with a touch screen, and not the traditional desktop way of a mouse and a keyboard.

Although desktops can certainly be expected to stay for quite some time to come, tablets and ultrabooks have been flooding the market.

Tablet sales continue to register a good growth year upon year, while PC shipments have gone downhill.

Lid can do a 360-degree turn
Lenovo’s IdeaPad Yoga 13 is an interesting 13.3-inch screen laptop which can readily be converted into a tablet. You just have to turn the lid all the way back to touch the underside of the laptop and what you get is a full-featured Windows 8 tablet.

Yoga 13 automatically disables the keyboard and touch pad when you do this so you don’t have to worry about pressing the wrong buttons and ruining your tablet experience.

Weighing in at around 3.3 pounds, Yoga 13 is slightly heavier than traditional ultrabooks but is still extremely portable.

Powerful internals
Packing a Core i5 processor and 4 gigs of RAM, you can expect nothing but great performance out of this laptop. It also has a 128 GB SSD to make things faster and more responsive.

The screen resolution is not the typical 1366×768 that you get with most laptops today. At 1600×900, the resolution is unusual but not something that you’d actually notice because the visuals are great and the panel is IPS.

It has a USB 3.0 port and a USB 2.0 port, with a full-size HDMI port and a 2-in-1 card reader. You also have the headphone jack and quite obviously a power jack. Owing to its slim profile, the device does not really have a ton of ports to flaunt.

With battery life coming in at around 5-6 hours, Yoga 13 seems to be an incredibly useful ultrabook.
